Stay Afloat – Supporting the Mental Health and Wellbeing of the Seafood Industry

Since 2020, the Stay Afloat program has been delivering mental health and wellbeing support across Australia’s commercial seafood industry. What began as a trial has grown into a national program that has reached thousands of people in seafood-reliant communities.

Thanks to funding secured in 2023, Stay Afloat expanded nationally and provided a vital service to our sector.

National funding for Stay Afloat concluded on 30 September 2025. This means services in Western Australia, Northern Territory, Victoria, and Tasmania have (hopefully only temporarily) paused.

Importantly, the program will continue in Queensland (until October 2026 and South Australia (until March 2026).

Stay Afloat is not a crisis service, nor available 24/7. If there is immediate danger, please call 000 or visit your nearest hospital emergency department.

Seafood Industry Australia is actively advocating for funding to reinstate services in all other jurisdictions. In the meantime, our website has been updated to ensure contact information for national and local support services remains current and accessible.

Stay Afloat received funding from the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care.
